Ghost Variations

Role: Development and project management

Medium:
Mobile Augmented Reality

Client:
Snapchat and Lincoln Center
In collaboration with the sculptor Sophie Kahn, we created a larger than life site specific digital installation for the David Geffen Hall at the Lincoln Center.

This was such a delightful artistic collaboration to be included in. Here is the official write up! Using location based AR, I placed the 3D scans Sophie created in the lobby as if they were physically in the space. I also had to optimize these busts and create the dynamic materials, as well as creating audio reactive reflections
on the ground.

The Experience

This project actually consisted of three Snapchat lenses, one for the left side of the lobby, one for the right, and a third that can be used anywhere for people who could not make it to the exhibition in person (this third lens was published to both Snapchat and the web as a web AR lens!).

Lobby goers would approach a starting point vinyl on the floor, and scan signage to access the lenses on each side. The experience orients itself using computer vision, so one it’s gained its bearings the user can see the larger than life busts emerge into the space, and walk down the isle to view each one.
